Ceramicist and jewellery designer
Amy Ambrose is an artist living on the Gold Coast. She uses clay to pay tribute to the things that inspire her - from pop icons, to works of art, and places that have left a mark on her.
After becoming interested in the famous Italian Le Teste di Moro sculptures - that were inspired by a dark legend about a Sicilian woman who cut off her lover’s head and used it as a planter after discovering he was married - she found herself drawn to Sicily. She recently returned from a trip to the beautiful island where she practiced Sgraffito at Salemi Ceramics and this illustrative ‘scratching’ technique has been incorporated into her latest pieces.
Whether trying to bring to life human faces or getting lost in bright colours, she finds working with both clay and precious gems grounding and peaceful. It is a way to meditate on things that spark joy.
